Facts for police prep

Standard

Today’s post is to help supply some information about the police services through-out Australia, most of the information I will be posting is from Wikipedia and the different states police websites, I would like to believe most of the information is accurate however I cannot guarantee that. To anyone whom is thinking of joining and wanting to learn some information I hope that my blog is helpful but please don’t just rely on this source as it may not be 100%accurate.

SAPOL

SAPOL was formed on the 28th of April 1838 and from what I can gather it had 10 mounted police and 10 patrol personnel in total, since that date SAPOL has developed into a 5000 strong police force with 131 Stations. The current commissioner is Gary Burns and the motto is “Keeping South Australia Safe”.

QPS

QPS was formed January 1st 1864, The QPS website states that as of 30 June 2012 QPS employed 15 082 people comprising 10 695 police officers, 415 police recruits and 3 972 staff members. The current commissioner is Ian Stewart and the motto for the state is “With Honour We Serve”. The 2012 stats are the most recent I could find.

WAPOL

WAPOL was formed in 1834, Wiki states that they have approximately 8750 members and 170 facilities, I wasn’t able to find this on WAPOL website so I am unsure as to how up to date this information is. Commissioner is Karl O’Callaghan.

VICPOL

Formed January 8th 1853, Has approximately 15,761 (2013). Motto is “Uphold the Right” According to wiki it was originally written in French ” Tenez le Droit” . Has 325 Stations and the commissioner is  Ken Lay APM.

NSW Police

NSW has 19832 employees, I am assuming not all of that number consists of sworn officers. It was formed in 1862 and its motto is “Culpam Poena Premit Comes” which translates to “Punishment Follows Closely On Guilt”. Their commissioner is Andrew Scipione APM. Wiki states they have over 426 Stations. Commissioner is Andrew P Scipione.

Tasmania Police

Formed in 1899 and has 1650 employees- 1260 are sworn members (as of 2011), I am assuming it has more now. The commissioner is Darren Hine APM. Wiki states it has 73 stations.

NTPOL

NTPOL has 1381 sown officers as of 2011, From what the history page is telling me on the NT police website SA and NT were joint and in 1869 Paul Foelsche was the first sub-inspector of Police at Palmerston (NT). The motto is “To serve and Protect” and the commissioner is John McRoberts.

So I hope that helps, however, where are the ladies ??? I know there have been some female commissioners and deputy commissioners but at this point in time its a mans game! The reason for having this information is because I am thinking it will be likely the state you are applying for will want you know a little about the history and kingpins and it shows interest and initiative.

The image is from 1911 in WAPOL.
